John Ferris MB ChB FRCOphth

Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Gloucestershire Eye Unit  1999-present

I qualified from Bristol in 1989 and carried out my ophthalmology training at the Western Eye Hospital London, Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge, Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, Great Ormond Street Hospital London and Moorfields Eye Hospital London.

I have been the Head of Ophthalmology Training in the Severn Deanery and a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Training Committee since 2010.

I designed the Simulated Ocular Surgery  website, which has been instrumental in changing how ophthalmic surgery is taught around the world.

I also designed the award winning Squint Clinic website.

I am the author of three ophthalmology textbooks and have been an invited speaker at 10 International Eye Surgery meetings over the last 5 years.

In 2009 I was awarded a Bronze National Clinical Excellence award for my contribution to ophthalmology and surgical training in the UK.

Carole-Anne Giles

Carole-Anne is my fantastic PA and she is an integral part of the service I provide for my patients. Not only is she the first port of call regarding any queries you might have about  clinic appointments and  the services we offer, she is also a friendly and reassuring voice at the end of the phone if you are worried or anxious about any aspects of your treatment.

Carole-Anne is also an  expert at coordinating your treatment to fit round any other family, work or holiday commitments you may have.

Personalised Ophthalmic Care

State of the art facilities

The Winfield Hospital has been providing private ophthalmic care for 25 years, combining  state of the art facilities with a relaxing and welcoming environment. Tetbury Hospital is equally well equipped and has been a firm favourite of my patients for 15 years.

Patient focused

Our aim is to make your journey from referral to discharge as stress free as possible.

Carole-Anne will help you arrange an appointment at a time that suits you and will also make all the arrangements for the day of your surgery. If you have any worries or concerns during any stage of your time under our care you can just give us a call.

Informative and reassuring

Consultations are relaxed affairs which aim to explain exactly what cataract surgery involves and to help you make informed decisions about your cataract surgery.

There will be ample time to answer all of your questions and to hopefully allay any of the quite natural anxieties you may have about your surgery.
